About the artist
Michael Francalanci is a self-taught photographer based in Amsterdam and one of the founders of Studio 3050. He started photographing while travelling but it was not until one year ago that he took up analogue photography. Fascinated by the concept of time, the physicality of the analogue medium is for Michael the most natural way to capture fading memories. Because time only exists in relation to the past we remember and the future we expect, photography becomes a means to preserve fragments of time, and therefore time itself. The images exhibited at ‘Unlost’ are taken during trips to Birmania, Portugal and Georgia. They stand out for their surreal character: slightly blurred, elusive and indefinite. A fleeting moment. Like the passing of time that can never be completely fixed or captured.
This unique photograph is handmade at Studio 3050. Unless otherwise stated, our limited edition prints are produced on exhibition quality paper with archival pigment inks. All limited edition prints are signed, titled, and numbered by hand by the artist. Each piece of artwork is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Before shipping each print is checked for perfection, stamped, numbered, signed in verso and packed unmounted in an archival sleeve.
